The mini-bus was full. The SWAGS had been warned not to expect their other-halfs home early. The Piss up was sorted. Now. Can Smarden produce the goods? In the moments before kick-off, few would of put their money on the Maidstone league side to beat their County league opponents. The County side turning up early for kick-off with their matching tracksuits. The majority of the Smarden side turning up late with their matching...........scarfs
When the game did get under way. A neutral wouldn't be able to the tell which side was from the superior league. Both sides playing good football despite the torrential rain. If anything, Smarden gave Otford too much respect. And when we realised we could very easily pull off an upset. The Smarden boys started to dictate the play. Smarden carved out many chances, with the Otford keeper having to pull off two world-class saves. Midway through the first half, Smarden got the breakthrough they deserved with a fine move finished by Andy Adamson.
The next ten minutes would be crucial. Could we keep Otford at bay for the inevitable onslaught. Five minutes passed then...slice...slice...flap............"The Deano" was born. To all those that missed it. Do not fear. I have a funny feeling it'll be re-enacted in many a goal celebration.
Into the second half and the ref called an end to the game, but after a chat with the players, allowed the game to continue. Within minutes the pitch was like the somme. (but without the bullets) Then with thirty minutes to go, Marcus Pearce broke through the Otford defence to slide the ball home. The remaining time was pure back to the walls stuff. But what a display. Keeping at bay everything Otford could throw at us. When the final whistle blew, it was as good as a feeling i have felt in any other game for Smarden. It was also great to see the team spirit usually associated with Troggs, appearing on a Saturday. Managers MOM was Adam Oliver. So Smarden march on in the Kent Cup. As for who we come up against next? I couldn't give a fuck. With spirit like this, we can take on anyone.

Well played everyone, great match report as allways big man! Few things to add:
-Lets not forget tony carty should be credited with the own goal (someone else sliced it first, i forget who...)
-Marcus might be dissapointed with 'broke through the defence' ...He'll tell you he skipped past at least 14 players before expertly slotting home. great goal.
-Adamson's was also a class finish, great through ball from that box to box player wearing 16
-We need a players MOM too as Loppy, Stocks, Logga (as always) to name a few, will rightly feel they deserved it.
-Lets all do the Deano! Lets all do the Deano! lala la la! _________________

What a 'hack' you are big fella, Fleet Street awaits........
Those sort of games don't come along that often, but when they do its nice to be on the winning side. I felt on another day and in different conditions they would probably get the better of us, but it wasn't another day and the conditions suited us just fine !
Travelling together on the minibus bonded our spirit and i think got us in the mood before we even reached Otford.
This team can go further in this competition, and if we all stick together and play as we did on Saturday in our forthcoming League games who knows, maybe the league is not out of the question.
I do want to make one suggestion tho', every team needs an omen, a talisman, something to remember the cup run by, Toes, you touched on it in your report.........Scarves....i think we should all wear them for the next round wherever it may be
Good luck Saturday, i wont be there, dont flap everyone oh no its just me that does that , Mini morphs birthday party awaits !
and remember the Scarfmen cometh _________________ 'NICE AVATAR, SHIT JOKES' ! |

If we're become a team of scarved men, we should also have a weekly competition for the worst/campest/craziest scarf on show
Logga, you're going to be missed you've been our best player practically every week, which doesn't usually happen for a left back! now i'll get my tongue out of your arse _________________
