Smarden were dealt a massive blow to pre season preparations today when Dave Law he is in talks to join Lydd this season. Lydd have reportedly offered Law around £30 a game plus a goal bonus and an improved contract should they win promotion from county league division 2 next season. The deal also includes post match drinks and pick up from his house for away games.
Law, 25, is currently on trial at Lydd and played his first friendly on Thursday night, netting a 30 yard lob. He is yet to sign the contract after details are still being negotiated and Smarden fans can only hope that billionaire backer Richard Moon can dig deep to come in with a counter offer for the Law man. Smarden will be expecting to demand a transfer fee of at least one of Laws match fees.
He admitted that he would be leaving with a heavy heart but felt that he couldn't turn down the opportunity to get paid to play and hopes Smarden players and fans will understand the move. Law hinted at a possible move to Troggs from Bethersden on Sundays as a way of compensating the Smarden players but admitted that it wouldn't be happening this season.
Law became an instant hero with the Smarden faithful when he signed 2 seasons ago for a then club record 2 pint fee. He has hit over 50 goals in just 2 seasons with some impressive performances to go with it, and will be greatly missed. A replacement will need to be brought in with Matt Dyke having also left for Bristol university FC, Smarden could be seriously short of goals next season, as Arch has no other out and out strikers in his squad and only Moon and Gibbs with any kind of respectable but perhaps debatable goal scoring records for the club. _________________ Troggs Stats (Since 05/06):
