The Troggs are pitted against old rivals Ashford Eagles this weekend as they enter the dreaded christmas period.
Troggs then travel to Hamstreet the following week before once again entertaining Mersham, who they beat 3-2 on sunday, in the Divsion 1 cup on Dec 16th.
The Troggs last faced Eagles in the 2nd division 2 years back under the guidance of Paul Newman. The two sides were then competing for promotion and whilst Eagles narrowly edged out Troggs 2-1 at Cornes Meadow, the Troggs smashed them 5-1 in the return fixture.
Since that game the two clubs have enjoyed opposing fortunes. Eagles, promoted above Troggs 2 years ago, picked up just 5 points in Division 1 last season finishing rock bottom yet avoided relegation as the divisions numbers were increased from 8 to 10 teams. This year Eagles are staring the same fate in the face as they sit second last on just 2 points from 8 games.
The Troggs, enjoying life at the other end of the table, will fancy a repeat of the 5-1 drubbing they dished out last time they visited as they look to close the gap on leaders Bliby. Troggs currently lie second on 19 points ahead of 3rd placed Bocca only on goal difference. The gap of 8 points to leaders Bliby may appear daunting but the troggs have 2 games in hand and with these two trips to Eagles and Hamstreet, they hope to bring Bliby back to within 2 points touching distance.
bein as this festive period is once again upon us, feel free to impress your friends, workmates and loved ones with this truly seasonal gag.
A group of chess enthusiasts had checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the hotel manager came out of his office and asked them to disperse. “But why?” they asked, as they moved off. “Because,” the manager said, “I can’t stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer.”
