Troggs today suffered their heaviest defeat since 29th Jan 2006 when they went down 5-0 to Bliby as the ashford side secured the league title with a confident performance.
A lacklustre Troggs performance exposed what worryingly looks like a gulf between the two sides as they prepare for a repeat fixture in next weekends cup final.
Troggs, many of them tired from saturday's heroic cup semi final win, and perhaps two many suffering from celebrating that win, seemed 5 yards off the pace the whole game.
For all the bad the game has to be looked at for what positives it gave. In terms of promotion it was always looking like a right off fixture as the Troggs always knew defeating hamstreet and mersham will secure promotion regardless of what happened in this game, so it is still in their hands. So effectively the result made no difference to the league and at least we didn't lose the cup final 5-0. We have a chance to put it right.
Gaffa Pete Nayden will look to draw on the disappointment of this result to inspire his troops not to end next weeks game with the same feeling. Tactically, Loppy will know what to expect from bliby and can look to make a few changes in personal or playing style to combat this.
As players, we all know we were off the pace and know that during the odd promising spells, we made chances which weren't taken and defensively we made mistakes that were punished. We need to cut out the mistakes and make the chances count.
The Bliby players will be thinking next weeks cup final will be a walk in the park and after today’s game with every right. But we all know we can improve on this performance and result and we'll have to punish any complacency that may have set in. We are not 5 goals behind them in ability and we have to prove it.
