This statement was issued on the clubs website earlier today:

Following the Sensational News that Roy Keane has left Manchester United by mutual Consent, Paul Newman marked his intent to be firmly in the race to sign the influencial midfielder. Newman said "Keane would be an ideal signing and I will definetly be in talks with his agent".

The arrival of Keane on the wage bill would almost certainly force Newman to move some players on with want away playmaker Rich 'Nana' Moon favourite for the Boot. Mooney, believed to be on a 7 figure salary, is currently out of favour with the clubs management following a very public fued with assistant manager George Dyke.

Around noon today, Moon quickly responded to quash allegations that he was on his way out of the Smarden-based club, stating that he 'was happy to stay'. Moon is all too aware of his managers longstanding admiration of Roy Keane and made moves last night to smooth over the debacle that had threatened his Troggs future. Moon commented that 'The gaffa's refusal to answer my (Moon's) telephone calls last night (Thurs) has been the clearest indication yet, that I might be regarded as suplus to requirements at Troggs'. Moon, who has played at the club for over 10 years, is a product of the team's youth policy, that has also seen the likes of Peter Naden, Bruce Dyer and Mikka Windibank through its ranks. Moon stipulated that if he was to leave the club 'Football in Smarden village would find it hard to recover'. Moon made no further comment on his rift with Assitant Manager George Dyke.
