Egerton 0-2 Troggs brings pre season to a closeTroggs finished pre season preparations with a convincing yet goal shy win over local rivals Egerton. Some very dubious reffing throughout from self admitted amateur George dyke resulted in a very open and flowing game (that’s how I saw it anyway....)
Roffey slotted home for the Troggs on 20 mins after the Egerton center back handled and a penalty was in my completely unbiased opinion rightly given. A lot of heavy pressure from the Troggs didn't really pay dividends as they found the net just once more, but it wasn't all plain sailing as an improved Egerton side, recently promoted to Div 1 hot on the heels of their village rivals found gaps in the makeshift Troggs defence but in the end, gaffa Graham Stocker kept a clean sheet deputising for regular No.1 Aaron Brown who is still worryingly yet to make a pre season appearance or even come to training...(lucky you're irreplaceable my friend!)
Despite the result, Stocker won’t have been completely satisfied with his last pre season friendly, it wasn't exactly emphatic and nor was it the first 11 that he had hoped to name. He went with a now unfamiliar 4-4-2 with Lee Gilbert making a comfortable debut at left back after coming on for the injured Gibbs within 10 minutes but he is not about again for another two months so hopefully gibbs injury is not too serious. Carty partnered Hollingsbee at center back but is apparently not available for next weeks league game and Harrison looked solid although slightly short of match fitness at right back. Chunk and Tommy looked their usual hard working selves in the middle of the park, so no complaints there, Potter is starting to look the part at right mid, and young Dan looks a great prospect for the left mid slot. Roffey and Matt up top still have all the quality the Troggs want but still perhaps lack the consistency the Troggs need and young Tom Bushall had a good game off the Bench but looks set to play for arch rivals Bethersden on Sundays instead (whilst still joining us on Saturdays)
Stocker is still without Dyke (arm) Leggis (knee) Moon (knob-rot) and possibly Bruce (moon-tending) next week whilst Eels and Brown should return. What might be a major problem is that everyone is still unsure who will be the long term center back partner for Hollingsbee with potential candidates: Carty (cycling), Loppy (goon-managing), Josh (broken-watch), Dyke Snr (rubbish at center back), Tommy C (too good in the middle) and Stocker himself (doesn't rate himself for some reason) all looking doubtful to fill the role.
Troggs fans keep faith and there is no doubt the big man will pull something out of the hat before this Sundays league kick off against Highfield. The squad is there and the few young players lurking about could well be what we need to kick on from last season.
