Lenham 5 Smarden 0Hey sports fans. To be completely honest i don't want to write a report for this game but it would be very unsporting not to write a report just because we lost. Besides there's nothing on tv at the moment.
Right. The game.
For the final game of the calendar year, Smarden were to face their stiffest test of the season. Away to Premier side Lenham in the cup (don't know what cup) Not helping matters was a number of key players being unavaliable. So we knew we would be up against it.
The match started predictably with Lenham controlling the match with some slick one touch football. Got to give them credit, their football at times was pretty, fucking good. Despite this Smarden had the first clear chance, but with Adam Roffey baring down on goal, a heavy touch enabled the keeper to snuff out the danger.
For all their nice football, Lenham looked at their most dangerous from set pieces. Sure enough it was a corner that was to lead to the first goal. Their left winger whipped over a cross into the danger area, where the ball flew off sweepers Tony Carty's boot and into the corner of the net. Their second goal also came from a dead ball situation. This time the free-kick was floated to the edge of the box, where the striker out-jumped myself and flicked on for a Lenham player to stroke home. 2-0 at half time, but the game was still retrieveable.
In the second half Smarden opted for a 4-5-1 formation. Quite right if we where to get the goals to get back into the tie. Unfortunately without the protection of a sweeper Lenham had more space up front and were able to over-run the defence time and time again. Netting three quick goals to put the match beyond Smarden. The rest of the match was a damage limitation exercise and despite the inevitable outcome, Smarden battled to the death.
Dean Burton received the m.o.m award. The keeper not standing a chance with any of the goals. I don't know if we would of won if we had the likes of Loppy, Moony, Chunk and Maggot playing. But it would of been very close. For the team that did play the match, i know no-one played particularly well. But every player did come off at the end looking absolutely knackered. You can't ask more than that.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Love Skipper Stocks.
PS Well done Leona! Awesome.

Who's Dean Burton?
Lads, i concur that everyone was blowing at the end (what a dvd that was!), and played with some pride for the last 25 minutes, but you didn't make it hard for the absentees to walk straight back in.
It was a cup we probably would never have won anyway but it's disappointing to be on the wrong end of a 5-0 drubbing. Deano mom, says it all.
We need to put that behind us now, enjoy christmas and concentrate on the next game away to Otford on 06/01. I will be playing my best available team (taking into account curent form).
Have a great christmas and a prosperous new year.
Let's get Smarden back where they belong.
Gaffer.
