Troggs Player manager Tony Carty, pictured above speaking to the press after the brews game at the weekend, admitted that even after five straight league wins, he doesn’t yet know his best 11.
This is most obvious in the center back position where Carty chose to drop himself and trial new signing Lee on Sunday. Carty is widely expected to re-pick himself in next Sunday’s crunch Derby game with Egerton. He is also rumoured to have drafted in veteran sweeper Pete ‘Loppy’ Nayden and may even opt for a wingback formation utilising Loppy’s sweeping talents. When questioned whether he prefers the 4-4-2 he played on Sunday or the wingback formation that enjoyed much success for his predecessor Paul Newman, Carty, never one to chat for hours to the press, said “I don’t know.”
George Dyke, who picked up the token ‘you used to live in our village man of the match’ award on Sunday said “The gaffa doesn’t tell us the team till up until half hour before kick off, so we are all on the team bus not knowing if we are starting or not. I’ve heard Arsene Wenger does the same thing over at Arsenal.”
Carty, earning a reputation as the tinkerman, has come under some flak from fans, being referred to as Sunday leagues answer to Steve Mclaren and also compared to idiotic cartoon character Sponge Bob Square Pants in a recent fanzine publication. The new manager has of course only lost one of his first 6 games in charge and that was against arguably the second best side in the Ashford league –Bromley Green. It is thought that the fans are merely trying to break the forum posting silence of the seemingly computer illiterate manager. Using a technique pioneered by Paul ‘Golden Balls’ Newman, first known as ‘Moon-baiting’, fans and players alike are fishing for carty to dip his tiny little typing fingers into the pleasant tropical forum waters.
