Troggs failed to take their chances against bromley green on Sunday carving out just a point in a 1-1 bore draw.
Moon returned to he starting line up with Adamson returning to the fold to partner Roffey up top at the expense of Matt Dyke. With Dyke Snr (broken arm), Leggis (knee ligaments) both out till next season and Loppy (dodgy old man knees) not passed fit, stocker called in pepper to the bench but the Troggs fans and players alike still fancied a possible 6 point haul over the green this season with the attacking talent on display. Brown in nets, Dyer swepped behind Lee and Carty, the energetic Eels at LWB, Gibbo at RWB/ST, Chunk and Tommy doing the dirty work in the middle allowing Moon the freedom behind Roff and Maggot.
Dictating much of the play in the first half the Troggs played some nice football in the first two thirds of the pitch but again suffered from what’s becoming an all too familiar sight; lacking the quality or composure in the final third to make any moves pay off. Roff and Moon seemed to do everything right until their finishing and it was Adamson who came closest with a quick turn and thunderous left footed drive tipped over by the Greens keeper. The strike was reminiscent of the old Andy Adamson, although overall he still looks a little off his former best (pace and weight in particular!), but understandably so having made only a handful of appearances at reserve level this season.
It was Green who took the lead after Brown one did well to parry a strike only for the unmarked striker to poke the rebound home, although perfectionist brown was reportedly unhappy not to have held onto the ball or turned it away out of danger.
A half time pep talk from the big man seemed to have been gone to waste as more sloppy play and unforced errors ensued but the Troggs finally found their way back into the game as Roffey found his scoring touch in the nick of time to level 1-1. Matt Dyke then entered the fray on for sweeper Dyer with Adamson dropping in at left back and stocker opting for a 4-4-2, but with the young striker failing to rediscover his early season form the gamble didn't pay dividends. Andy Pepper came on left wing for the busy Eels and the reserve team top scorer is looking a much improved and more composed player this year, on his third outing for the first team, notably cutting inside on one occasion and striking well from 25 yards only to see his effort sail past the far post.
in the end a point is a point and the first draw of the season but the Troggs will know the chance was there to take all three and improve their unexpected haul.
That said troggs have been put out of cups 3 times in the previous 3 seasons by the green and had you offered stocker 4 points pre season from the two meetings i'm sure he would have bitten your arm off.
