Club Statement – May 11th 2009

Ashford Cavaliers FC can now confirm that the current First team will be withdrawing from the Ashford & District Sunday Premier league at the close of the present season. The League Council were approached and consented to the plan put forward by the Club.

This decision was taken after several months were spent searching for a suitable individual to take over as First team manager, without any success. It was therefore agreed that the Club ‘down size’ until the Club is in a position to expand again. This is a course of action that, whilst not always popular, is something that we and other clubs have done before. It is sometimes necessary to take a sensible step back before moving forward again.

Ashford Cavaliers will be represented in season 09/10 in Division 3. All affected players will be contacted explaining how the changes affect them.

The Club would like to recognise the efforts shown by certain individuals during this very difficult season. There are a core of First team players (you know who you are) who have kept going – facing defeat after defeat – simply to fulfil our fixtures. The players signed on would have probably finished in the top half of the Premier had they been available each week. Sadly only a few were able to turn out. This effort shown cannot be ignored, for one simple reason – our Reserve squad, who have had a great season, would not have won Division 4 or got to the Division 4 cup final had the First team folded, or if Big Man had walked away! It really is that simple. A big effort behind the scenes involving Dale, Big Man and Skip tried to ensure the Reserves had a chance to complete their own season in their own league. Yet without the efforts of key First team members, it would not have been possible.

Season reviews etc will appear over the coming weeks to offer a more light hearted summery, but for now the Club would like to remind everyone involved next season of the efforts shown during this season

I don't reckon its just a manager issue Andy Lowe would probably have stayed doing it but he couldn't average more than 8 players a week

i can't see how you can't get players. Strange really. Even if they got alright players for next season they could do a job in div 1

Yeah they were only a few short. guess its hard when you get into the habit of losing. but surely there are people out there keen to play. Div 1 isn't that hard but then people always love the go back to div 3 and be awesome tactic don't they! I plan to keep troggs floating around the prem with the odd dip to div 1 when we get old.

Nice to have someone to talk to on the forum. exciting
